Democracy and Art. Art during Wartimes
For the opening of the exhibition “Despite of Everything” with four recipients of the Kasimir Malevich Prize on April 29, 2015, the gallery of the Polish Institute in Duesseldorf is hosting a discussion with the artists. Alevtina Kakhidze, Stas Volyazlovsky, Zhanna Kadyrova and Lada Nakonechna are going to discuss the circumstances, chances and messages of art in wartimes with Alexander Schwarz.
The Malevich Prize, initiated by the Polish Institute in Kiev in 2008 as the first Ukrainian art prize, awards new and alternative art forms and supports young, innovative and internationally working artists. The current exhibition, curated by Monika Szewczyk (Gallery Arsenał, Białystok) and Monika Kumięga (P.I. Duesseldorf), presents four parallel narrations, deeply rooted in the difficult real life in the Ukraine during wartimes, with the ongoing fight for democracy and flourishing art under extremely hard economical and social circumstances: despite of everything.
